Here you’ll find answers to common questions about funding options, how our services work, and what new clients can expect when joining Murrumbidgee Speech Pathology.

Funding Options
NDIS
Murrumbidgee speech pathology are very experienced at working with NDIS participants. We are able to provide speech pathology services to self and plan managed NDIS clients
aged 0-18.
Medicare
If your child has a disability, a chronic health condition, or complex care needs you may be eligible for a Chronic Disease Management/Enhanced Primary Care Plan.
This plan is available for people who have a chronic health condition (one that has been, or is likely to be, present for six months or longer) or complex care needs.
Medicare rebates are available for up to five (5) eligible allied health sessions per calendar year. A referral from your GP is necessary to set up these services. Further information is available from the Medicare website. You will need to discuss your child’s eligibility with your GP.
Private Health Insurance
You can claim for speech pathology services if this is covered in your “extras” cover by your private health insurer. We have a Hicaps machine so claims can be processed on the day of your visit.
General Questions
What is speech pathology?
Speech pathology helps people of all ages improve their communication skills, from speaking clearly to understanding language and social communication. It can also support feeding and swallowing in children and adults.
Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
No, a referral isn’t required. Families, carers, teachers, or healthcare providers can contact us directly to arrange an appointment.
Are there free speech pathology services in Wagga?
Yes, Wagga Wagga Community Health Center provides free speech pathology services to children up to 7 years and 11 months who live in Wagga Wagga and surrounding areas. You can access this service by phoning the intake line on 1800 654 324
What age groups do you work with?
We work with clients across all ages, though we mostly support children and young people.
How long are speech therapy sessions?
Sessions are typically 30 to 60 minutes long, depending on the goals, needs, and age of the client.
How many sessions will my child need?
Every child is different. After an initial assessment, your therapist will recommend a plan that suits your child’s goals and progress.
Can parents or carers stay during the session?
Yes, we encourage parents and carers to be involved! Your participation helps create consistency between therapy and home life.
Do you offer telehealth appointments?
Yes, we offer telehealth for families who prefer online sessions or live outside of Wagga.
New Clients
What happens at the first appointment?
Your first appointment is all about getting to know you and your child. The therapist will talk through your concerns, observe communication, and start building a plan tailored to your needs.
How do I book an assessment?
You can contact us through our website, call, or email to arrange an initial consultation and assessment.
What should I bring to my child’s first session?
Please bring any relevant medical reports, previous assessments, school or daycare observations, and any questions you’d like to ask.
How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?
If your child has trouble being understood, following instructions, using age-appropriate words and sentences, or socialising with peers, a speech pathologist can help assess and guide you.
What areas of communication do you assess and treat?
We assess and support speech sounds, language development, social skills, literacy, stuttering, feeding, swallowing, and alternative communication methods.
Can you work with children who have been diagnosed with autism or developmental delays?
Yes. Our therapists are experienced in working with children with autism, developmental delays, and other diagnoses. Therapy is always tailored to suit each individual child.
How do I stay updated on my child’s progress?
We keep families involved through regular updates, progress reviews, and shared goal-setting discussions. Communication is a big part of what we do!
